As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on all that I’ve accomplished in 2024. While the milestones I’ve reached might not seem monumental to everyone, they represent years of struggle, perseverance, and healing for me. This has been a year of reclaiming my independence, finding peace, and learning to thrive after enduring so much.
Let me share some of the highlights of my year:
1. My Kids and I Have Been in Our Own Place for a Year
After years of living with my grandparents, we finally have a place to call our own is more than just a milestone—it’s a foundation. It’s a safe space where we can build our lives, create memories, and grow as a family.
2. I Have a Good-Paying Job as a Nurse
As a nurse, I’m proud to say that I’ve found a career that not only supports my family but also gives me purpose. It’s a job that allows me to help others while proving to myself that I’m capable of so much more than I once believed.
3. We Have Two Running Vehicles
It might seem small to some, but having reliable transportation is a huge win for us. It represents independence and the ability to navigate life’s responsibilities without fear of being stranded.
4. I Can Leave the House Alone Without Having a Panic Attack
This is one of my proudest accomplishments. For years, leaving the house—especially at night—was impossible. Anxiety and panic would take over. Overcoming that fear and being able to step out with confidence is a testament to how far I’ve come.
5. I’ve Cut Off Toxic Family Members and Friends
Setting boundaries and removing toxic people from my life wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. I’ve learned that prioritizing my mental health and surrounding myself with positive influences is vital for my growth.
6. I Started My Blog
Sharing my story and connecting with others through Unbreakable Phoenix has been incredibly therapeutic. It’s a space where I can be vulnerable, celebrate victories, and inspire others who might be going through similar struggles.
7. I’ve Repaired My Relationship with My Grandparents
Mending relationships that matter takes time, effort, and forgiveness. I’m grateful to have reconnected with my grandparents, and this renewed bond has brought so much joy to our family.
8. I’ve Successfully Been Co-Parenting with Rich
Co-parenting isn’t always easy but finding common ground and focusing on what’s best for the kids has been a victory in itself. I’m proud of how far we’ve come.
Overcoming Trauma
These achievements may seem small to some, but they’re monumental to me. They represent the strength it’s taken to overcome years of trauma that left me afraid to be alone or even step outside. For years, panic attacks, fear, and self-doubt controlled my life. But this year, I’ve taken those steps toward freedom and healing.
One of the most challenging parts of this journey has been learning to trust myself again. There were days when I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. With time and effort, I’ve learned to find strength in my struggles and pride in my progress.
Grateful for Support
I couldn’t have done any of this alone. My oldest son, Jordan, has been my rock throughout this journey. He’s been there to pick up the slack when I was overwhelmed, to encourage me when I doubted myself, and to remind me that we’re in this together.
We’ve been through a rollercoaster of emotions this year, but it’s brought us closer than ever. Leaning on each other has taught us the power of family and resilience.
Looking Ahead
As we step into a new year, I’m filled with hope and excitement for what’s to come. I know there will be challenges, but I also know I’m capable of facing them. This year has taught me that growth isn’t always linear, but it’s always worth it.
To anyone reading this, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own accomplishments, no matter how small they might seem. Every step forward is worth celebrating.
Here’s to another year of growth, healing, and resilience.
Happy New Year!
