The Power of Surrender: Learning to Let Go and Trust the Universe
Life has a way of teaching us lessons, whether we’re ready for them or not. Recently, I found myself asking the universe for clarity. With all the challenges I’ve been facing, I felt like I was missing the lesson buried within them. I needed direction—something I could grasp to make sense of the chaos.
I turned to my tarot cards first, hoping they’d shed some light. One theme came up again and again: surrender. Still unsure, I reached out to a dear friend who’s also one of my guides. I asked for guidance through a song, telling him to make the message unmistakably clear within the next three tracks.
And then it happened. The very next song? “Surrender” by Godsmack.
Even though the message couldn’t have been clearer, I shrugged it off. Because, of course, I did. That’s when the universe decided to escalate things.
The Universe Strikes Back
If gentle nudges don’t work, the universe won’t hesitate to hit you over the head with its lessons. My car broke down—not ideal, but manageable. I borrowed my son’s car, thinking I’d solved the problem. Then his car caught fire due to an electrical issue with the alternator. Suddenly, I was left with no car, no plan, and an overwhelming sense of despair.
I spiraled. Anxiety took over as I questioned everything. Why me? What did I do to deserve this?
Desperate for answers, I turned to my astrological birth chart and discovered I had six planets aligned—Mercury, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune. Lucky me, right? While I could joke about blaming the planets, I knew the truth. This wasn’t random. The universe was forcing me to confront my lesson: surrender.
Finding the Lesson in the Chaos
I’ll be honest—I have major control issues. When things spiral out of my grasp, I panic. My immediate reaction was to try to figure everything out: How are we going to pay for this? How will we make it work? But the more I struggled to control the situation, the more the universe pushed back.
I finally realized what I needed to do. I needed to surrender—to trust the process and let go of the outcome. Everything happens for a reason, even if it’s not immediately clear.
That morning, I made an appointment to take the car in. I surrendered the stress and trusted that things would work out. And you know what? They did. The mechanic was able to squeeze us in and perform a temporary fix we could afford.
The Power of Surrender
This experience taught me something invaluable: stressing over things outside your control is a waste of energy. When we let go and trust the process, life has a way of working itself out. Surrender isn’t about giving up; it’s about releasing the need to micromanage every detail and trusting that the universe has your back.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a breath. Surrender. Trust that everything is unfolding as it should.
And remember: the universe has a way of making sure we learn the lessons we need—even if it has to smack us upside the head to do it.
